CBM Re-Assigns Jeff and Deann Carter

Canadian Baptist Ministries - May 15, 2018

Mississauga, Ontario – Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) is pleased to announce the re-assignment of Global Field Staff Jeff and Deann Carter, effective September 1, 2018. The Carters have served with CBM since 2002, based in Prague, Czech Republic, with a focus on mentoring youth leaders primarily within the European Baptist Federation.

The Carters have been reassigned for Jeff to become the Director of Horizons and Congress Mobilization within the Baptist World Alliance (BWA). This partnership enhances the commitment and capacity of the BWA to work with an emerging generation of Baptist leaders globally. In his new role, Jeff will be providing leadership both to the Horizons youth leaders online training program and to mobilizing member bodies, churches and individuals for the Baptist World Alliance Congress that will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2020. The Congress is expected to draw 4,000 Baptists from around the world to participate in worship, celebration, prayerful reflection, and missional action.

Under the direction of the Carters, the Horizons program has helped train thousands of youth leaders globally and is currently offered in 11 languages and over 30 countries. Through the BWA global network, the Horizons program will be able to extend its reach to equip even more youth leaders from around the world. BWA General Secretary Elijah Brown notes, “At a time when over 65 percent of all of the world’s Christians are under the age of 45, I am excited that Dr. Carter, who has extensive experience and a joyful spirit of service, will help strengthen the ability of Baptists around the world to receive vital training.”

Says CBM Executive Director Terry Smith of the Carters’ impact, “Over the past 14 years, I have watched with admiration, the success of the Horizons training program for youth workers in strengthening the witness of local churches throughout Europe and the Middle East. I have also talked to many of the leaders of the European Baptist Federation who attest to the fact that Horizons has been a strategic, bridge-building resource, reaching even further in order to help shape a new generation of church leaders. It is thrilling for us at CBM to see this giant step towards a global impact as Jeff brings his passion, skills and experience to the entire Baptist World Alliance family.”

Jeff and Deann are scheduled to return to Canada in July for a period of home assignment before Jeff begins his new role. They will be based in Nova Scotia.
