European Baptists: New Internet Portal for Children and Youth

Jeff Carter, Vassil Vasilev, Klaus Roesler - February 09, 2007

P r a g u e – The Baptist children, youth and church workers of Europe have gotten a new English-language platform: www.ebfyc.org. The project’s creators, Vassil Vasilev (Plovdiv) und Dr. Jeff Carter (Prague), state that the site is intended to better network the children’s
and youth work of Europe’s Baptist unions. Vasilev is Youth Director of Bulgaria’s Baptist Union, and Carter, Youth Director for the European Baptist Federation (EBF). Vasilev stated: "Undoubtedly, our young generation is an e-generation, where everything - almost everything - is simply a click away.” He views the new Internet platform as “a tool which will prove useful in connecting and providing assistance for youth and children workers from all corners of Europe and the Middle East”.

Jeff Carter adds: “The site is not merely a place to list events and resources, though this will be an important function of the site. It will also enable us to conduct distance education.” Carter reckons that in some cases offerings will be available in the native language of the user. The project is still only at the beginning, but he believes “that this site will grow in its influence as a tool to help educate, encourage and inspire networks across the EBF-family”. The decision to create such a platform was made at the EBF-conference for children’s and youth work in Izmir, Turkey, in January 2004. Contact is possible via: support@ebfyc.org.
