Two new churches opened in the conflict zone in Ukraine

The Baptist Brotherhood of Ukraine celebrated two special events at the end of October. Two Baptist churches in the Donetsk area – Umanske settlement and Pokrovsl town – were opened … during the seventh year of the conflict.

The church dedications were held on 24 and 25 October 2020. The church buildings are being used for Sunday church services as well as for evangelistic, Bible studies and other meetings. The churches are also involved with humanitarian aid distributions for people in need.

Prior to the war, there were no Baptist churches in Umanske and Pokrovsk. But during the first weeks of the conflict, Baptist ministers and believers were constantly involved with social ministry to the local residents who were in need.

With time, small Bible study groups appeared, and the growth continued. It took some time and a lot of effort to find and renovate the buildings for church use. Many brothers and sisters donated their time, effort, and finances to make it possible for the doors of the church to be opened to every soul looking for God.

All of this has started because of a desire of brothers and sisters from Europe to help needy people with food and hygiene items, warm clothing, coal, firewood, water heaters, and other important items local people really needed. The most important thing in these difficult circumstances, though, was that people had a chance to hear about the unchanging love of Christ.

Brothers and sisters, please continue to pray for Ukraine and the challenges it is going through. Especially pray for the brothers ministering in the east of Ukraine and for the people experiencing severe suffering there – both spiritually and physically.

May God bless you!
