Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam establishes McClendon Chair
Rev Prof Dr Henk Bakker has been appointed to the James Wm. McClendon Chair for Baptistic and Evangelical Theologies at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Seven partners signed a Partnership Agreement at the Baptist House in Amsterdam, September 1, 2017.
Congratulations to Karen and Knud Wümpelmann
Today, on 23 August 2017, Karen and Knud Wümpelmann celebrate their 70th marriage anniversary. In the 1970s and 80s Knud Wümpelmann first served as President and later as General Secretary for the EBF. We congratulate Karen and Knud wholeheartedly, and wish them much love, joy and peace, and God’s blessings for the days to come!
God is at work on Turkey’s Black Sea coast
On a Sunday morning in June, 25 new Christian believers were baptized in a nearby river in Turkey’s Black Sea region. In addition to seven Turkish believers, refugees from Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan were among those baptized.

Welsh Baptists celebrate 150 years of witness
The Baptist Union of Wales celebrated its 150th anniversary. The celebration was held over two days in glorious sunshine with in excess of 400 people present representing a wide range of churches some of whom worship in Welsh and others in English.
Elijah Brown nominated for BWA general secretary
Bangkok (BWA) -- American Elijah Brown, originally from the state of Texas, is being nominated to be the next general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA). Neville Callam, a Jamaican, retires from that position in December after more than 10 years of service.
Baptists gather in Thailand
Approximately 300 Baptist leaders, pastors, theologians, seminary presidents, professors and interested Baptists from almost 50 countries are traveling to Bangkok, Thailand, for worship, fellowship, study and decision meetings.
EBF Delegation Visits Lebanese Officials
While the Middle East region is going through disorienting times, Lebanon is experiencing new steps forward. An encouraging sense of hope was clearly evident in the meetings that a delegation from the European Baptist Federation, led by its General Secretary, the Revd Anthony Peck, and the Middle East Representative on the Federation’s Executive Committee, Dr. Nabil Costa, had with Lebanese officials last week.
How God Opened Doors
The EBF Commission for Freedom and Justice met from 6-9 June in Sofia, Bulgaria. Following is a reflection by one of the commission members, Shane McNary. Moments of Transformation
This past May saw the semi-annual joint conference of the Acadia/EBF Youth Leaders Institute held in the beautiful Moravian mountains of Malenovice in the Czech Republic. The conference was led by Dr Jeff Carter, the EBF Youth Leadership Coordinator.
